Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology
Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) is that Use multiplexer (MUX) to multiplex different WDM wavelength
optical carrier signal into one fiber for transmission in the transmitter, then use DeMUltipleXer (DEMUX) to Separate
each WDM wavelength in receiver. Each WDM wavelength signals are independent of each other, and is not affected
by any transport protocol and rate.
CWDM and DWDM all belong to the WDM technology. The difference is that they are in the spectrum of different
channel spacing. CWDM have 16 band that from 1270 nm to 1610 nm, interval between each band to 20 nm.
Generally use the DFB laser, its laser and filter device is cheaper. DWDM channel interval according to the need
to have 3 kinds: 0.4 nm (50 GHZ), 0.8 nm (100 GHZ), and 1.6 nm (200 GHZ), need extra wavelength control device.
